Welcome to VAC 4
You will discover that you will have much more freedom this year than past art classes because by now you have developed basic skills related to the principles and elements of design. You will continue to develop these skills towards a deeper level each year you take art. The IHSART.org website is your main source of information, lessons, art examples, and more. You will discover all your lessons on the site for the whole year.
Your lessons are divided into three parts, each counting for 1/3 of your total grade:
-The first part is a weekly lesson related to art history, writing, drawing/painting techniques and aesthetics. This lesson will be graded weekly. These lessons are always found on the IHSART.org website for each week. Most of the lessons are assessments on learning.
-The second part is creating, drawing, and sketching within an artists sketchbook. Bring your sketchbook to class each day you have art. You have the time in class to create and work in your sketchbook as you choose using the various supplies in the class. You may purchase any size sketchbook for your use. Blick Art Supplies has a broad variety of sketchbooks for you to choose from. You will need to purchase a folder or portfolio to keep all your art pieces in and to bring with you when you have art class.
-The third part is to produce a concentrated independent project for each semester.
Within each of the three lesson structures you will be required to learn the Bonzo Standards of Visual Art that are posted in the classroom. These are your guiding principles, your end game objectives, your purpose in taking art. They are dynamics that will stay with you your whole life.
As you complete each work of art related to the above you will be instructed to make a cell phone image of your art to post to ihs.db@yahoo.com. Because your cell phones will not be available in class you will be given specific times to post your work or you may do it from home.
Bonnell’s Ten Commandments:
There are non-negotiable classroom rules that must be followed at all times.
Always show respect towards your teacher and your peers.
No profanity is allowed, ever. You will be sent directly to a different location out of art class.
No food is allowed, don’t bring it in.
Cell phones are put away in the cell phone holder in the front of the class. You will be instructed to get your phones prior to leaving for your next class.
Always respect a substitute teacher. Any disrespect will come back directly to me.
Always, always, always clean up after yourself. Leave no trace behind.
Place all art supplies neatly back into their location leaving the supplies in a neat and orderly manner for the next student.
Go to the bathroom prior to coming to art class! Only emergency situations are allowed and a bathroom pass must always be used.
Never get behind on your lessons. With the IHSART.org site you always have the lessons at your fingertips to complete, even when you are needing to stay at home due to illness, etc.
Always enter the classroom quietly. Role will be taken either prior to coming into the room or once everyone is in the class. The first 15 minutes of class will always be quiet due to my giving a demonstration an as you will have a lesson to complete on your laptop.
